Don’t Be a H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E

Song Review:  Hypocrite by Daisy Grenade

CONTIBUTING AUTHOR Ginny

The alternative/indie duo Daisy Grenade, consisting of vocalists Dani Nigro and Keaton Whittaker, rang in the summer with the release of their newest single, “Hypocrite.” Between monotone verses embracing “over it” feelings, a punchy, fast-paced chorus spelling out “H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E”, and laying out precisely what it means, the song grabs listeners’ attention the moment the beat kicks in.  At just 1 minute and 48 seconds, the single makes you want to roll the windows down, turn the volume up, and scream along to the lyrics.

The duo told crowds at the Sad Summer Festival in Pontiac, Michigan, that they wrote the song after dealing with hypocrisy and toxic behavior online. In the first verse, the singers take a sarcastic approach, “speaking” to the hypocrite directly, “Tell me how I feel 'cause you’re getting pretty gutsy…” Leading into the chorus, the singers ramp up their energy as they call out the hypocrite, “Done done done with your bullsh- Someone’s gotta tell you, so I guess I’ll do it.” In the second verse, the duo kicks up their aggression as they are evidently tired of dealing with the hypocrisy and are ready to get their claws out, “...Go behind my back one more time I’m gonna end you. I don’t really like you. I don’t even think your friends do.”

Whether you need a catchy song that packs a punch to add to your daily commute playlist or you need to learn how to spell a 9-letter word - “Hypocrite” is worth a listen.
