Classic Echoes and Raw Power
Album Review: Death or Glory by Palaye Royale

Palaye Royale, the fashion rock trio, has released their fifth full-length album, “Death or Glory,” worldwide. A mix of alternative rock, metal, and dashes of classic rock, this album is a veritable banger.
Ever changing, Palaye Royale has shown that they will never pin themselves down to one genre—to our benefit. While there are clear influences of everything from Oasis to “Heartache Tonight” by The Eagles, Palaye Royale stays true to its sound while expanding its horizons.
“Death or Glory” reflects who Palaye Royale began as and who they are becoming as a band. Remington Leith’s vocals, as usual, display emotion with a rawness that is uncommon. For fans of their earlier work, the albums “Boom Boom Room Side A” and “Boom Boom Room Side B,” the songs “For You, Hot Mess, Been Too Long,” and “Addicted to the Wicked and Twisted” will reminiscent of their earlier days—a classic rock-sound, with a hint of traveling musicians from days of old. “Mister Devil,” “Showbiz,” and “Death or Glory” could have come from The Bastards era: hard rock at its core.
“Ache in My Heart” and “Dark Side of the Silver Spoon” are catchy songs, and the videos show a comedic side of the band not previously depicted in their media.
“Self-Loathing Conversation” is the most surprising track on the album. A touch of country combined with Leith’s hard vocals, it’s an unusual juxtaposition that somehow works.
One constant with Palaye Royale is their ability to take emotional, hard-to-hear lyrics and pair them with catchy melodies that make you want to dance.
The standout track for us at Metal Muse Magazine is “Mister Devil.” Catchy and heavy, with a bit of an homage to “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones, it sounds like it should have been on the soundtrack of the film “House of 1,000 Corpses.”
Palaye Royale is currently performing a short acoustic show in the UK and will embark on the worldwide “Death or Glory” tour from September 16 to December 10.
